SEARCY — White County Medical Center associates named Jennifer Varner, RN, BSN, as Associate of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2010. As the nurse educator for WCMC, Varner instructs the entire nursing staff on all policies and procedures of the hospital from education for newly hired nurses at orientation to veteran nurses through continuing education.
Varner has worked for White County Medical Center since 2005. During her first year with the hospital, she worked in the Critical Care Unit. Since then, she has worked in education. Prior to joining WCMC, she worked at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn.
“I really like the fact that our hospital is a smaller hospital because you get to know more people and take care of people you see out in the community every day,” Varner said. “That makes working here so meaningful.
“There are aspects of each roleI have as a nurse educator that I love. I like nursing orientation, because I get to meet all the new nurses. Sometimes, the nurses have worked at other places and share good practices; it is a constant learning experience. Also, I like educating nurses on new equipment, which allows me to learn to use the machines, too.”
