Iris Meeting

SEARCY — The White County Iris Society, the local affiliate of the American Iris Society, will meet at 2 p.m. at the home of Paul and Joli Love, 605 E. Race. The program for the meeting will be a pictorial report of the 2010 AIS National Convention held in Madison, Wis., in May, including the display gardens toured by local members in attendance. Old-Fashioned Day

BEEBE — Stoney Point UME Church at Stoney Point and Swinging Bridge Road will host Old-Fashioned Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature the Gospel Tones Quartet, performing Southern gospel music; and the Bull Creek Band, performing bluegrass gospel music. Remote-Control Fly-In

FAIRFIELD BAY — The Lake Area Fun Flyers Squadron will feature “Learn to Fly” at the group’s fifth annual Fly-In. The best remote-control flyers from Arkansas and surrounding states will fly the best, newest, oldest and fastest model airplanes at the club’s flying field on The New Road, south of Fairfield Bay. The public is invited to watch the flyers both days and to enjoy food and drawings for more than $2,000 worth of prizes. A new feature at this year’s fly-in will be an opportunity for people to sign up for a free lesson with a “Buddy Box” and an expert pilot to experience the fun of flying a real model airplane. Gourmet Dinners

MELBOURNE — The Ozarka College Culinary Arts Department will host its Gourmet Dinners during the semester with the first event scheduled from 5-8 p.m. The advanced culinary arts students will lead this dining experience from planning to execution. Two more gourmet night events are planned for Thursday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Nov. 11. Reservations can be made in advance for those dinners. The events are by reservation only, and seating is limited. Day of Action

POCAHONTAS — The Randolph County Community Impact Team is organizing a United Way Day of Action event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteer teams will assist Babbie Nelson in setting up staging and cleanup at the Maynard Pioneer Park to help prepare for Pioneer Days. Multiple teams will be needed to work at the historic downtown square. The city will provide materials and a site manager so volunteers can mulch, weed and plant flowers to beautify landscaping in preparation for the Fall Festival. Fall Fest

BEEBE — The Beebe Fall Fest will be from 3-9 p.m. in downtown Beebe. Entertainment will include Beebe Martial Arts, Impact Martial Arts, Energize Dance Studio, Big Daddy, DNR and the Gin Rivers Outlaw Band and the Luke Williams Band. Music in the Mountains

HORSESHOE BEND — The monthly Music in the Mountains Show will return to the Horseshoe Bend Theatre at 6 p.m. The house band, the Highway 289 Band, will welcome guests David Sherrell of Oxford, Chelsea Savage of Batesville, Kattie Laney of Mountain Home and many others. Golf Scramble

MELBOURNE — The Ozarka College Foundation Board of Directors’ annual benefit golf scramble will be Saturday at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Club in Melbourne. The 18-hole tournament is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The entry fee for a four-person team is $200. Rockin’ for a Reason

BATESVILLE — The second Rockin’ for a Reason concert will be in Independence Hall at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville. The concert is sponsored by Citizens Bank and WRD Entertainment. Danny Dozier and The Lockhouse Orchestra will take the stage at 8 p.m. and play for about two hours. All proceeds from the event will go toward the construction of the new Nursing and Allied Health Building. Advance tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Citizens Bank, First Community Bank, WRD Entertainment and UACCB. Tickets purchased at the door will be $12. Recovery Celebration

SEARCY — The Wilbur Mills Center in Searcy, a nonprofit organization that specializes in substance abuse, addiction treatment and mental health, will host a National Recovery Month celebration from 1-5 p.m. For more information, call (501) 207-2632.

SAME Café

SEARCY — The SAME Café will be open from 4-6 p.m. at the West Side Church of Christ, 709 W. Arch St. in Searcy. The SAME Café is open on the first and third Saturdays of each month to anyone in the community who would like a free warm meal.

TEA Party

BATESVILLE — A patriotic, nonpartisan rally will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Riverfront Park, on the north side of the river in Batesville. The program will include local and out-of-town speakers, candidates and music. This is a family event. The event is sponsored by the Independence TEA Party, a member of the Arkansas We the People TEA Party organization.

5K Race

POCAHONTAS — The fourth annual Onnie Hawkins 5K race will be at 8 a.m. at Black River Technical College. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. Door prizes will be given, and there will be a silent auction. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society.

Dance Workshop

POWHATAN — The Powhatan Historic State Park will host a historic-dance workshop from 7-10 p.m. The registration fee is $5 per person. Learn dances of the mid-19th century, such as the Virginia reel, the patty cake polka and many more. Dance experience is not required for this evening workshop. Refreshments will be furnished. Health Fair

POCAHONTAS — The ninth annual Prostate Cancer Screening and Health Fair will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pocahontas Community Center, 205 Geneva Drive. There will be free prostate screenings for men older than 35 and/or with a family history; and mammogram certificates for women older than 40. There will also be cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and vision screenings; and free tetanus shots.
