Conway Center court hearing resumes

— The hearing in federal court on the Conway Human Development Center continues today.

The U.S. Department of Justice sued the state in 2009, claiming Arkansas’ facilities for developmentally disabled adults and children had fallen below federal standards of care and violated the civil rights of the residents. The state maintains that the residents are well-cared-for.

Many parents and guardians of center residents oppose the Justice Department’s lawsuit, fearing it will cause the center to close and leave their loved ones without a safe place to live.
