Hope approves deer hunt within city

— The coming deer season will include private lands within the city of Hope.

The city approved an ordinance that will allow bow hunters to get permission from landowners and a permit from the city so they can hunt within the municipality.

The ordinance does not allow use of firearms for hunting deer in the city.

As with a number of cities across Arkansas, the deer population has led to traffic accidents and the nuisance of deer nibbling gardens.

The Texarkana Gazette reports that the hunt inside Hope will run the length of the season, from Oct. 1 through Feb. 28.

Hunters in the city will have to abide by a set of rules that add restrictions above state hunting regulations.
