Sheriff: Man, wife killed; uncle held

— A Jackson County man is being held for questioning after police said he shot and stabbed two people to death during a fight Tuesday evening.

Gary Paul Henley, 41, of Weldon, said he had been attacked by his nephew and the nephew’s wife at his home on Madison Street in the south Jackson County town at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sheriff David Lucas said.

Steven Lynn Bridgman, 45, and Ida Bridgman, 48, both of Weldon - attacked Henleywith a knife, Lucas said. Lucas didn’t say what caused the altercation.

Henley told Lucas that he was stabbed several times. He was treated at Harris Hospital in Newport and released.

Deputies found the two Bridgmans in a bathroom with stab and gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene by Jackson County Coroner Chris Driver.

Henley is being held in the Jackson County jail while prosecutors determine whether to charge him with the two deaths.
