Fledermaus Concert

GURDON — The Muses Creative Artistry Project will present “The Fledermaus Concert” at 7 p.m. at the Charles and Anita Cabe Auditorium at Gurdon High School. The performance will last about an hour and a half. The event is sponsored by Gurdon philanthropists Charles and Anita Cabe. The concert, with the theme “A Viennese Ball,” will feature performances by about 15 singers, instrumentalists, actors and dancers, centering around “Die Fledermaus,” a famous, light-hearted, operetta performed in English. Other works by Strauss, Bach, Shakespeare, Verdi and Bernstein will be performed with styles ranging from opera, classical and sacred to Broadway, contemporary and jazz. Tickets, $15 for adults and $5 for college students, can be purchased online at www.themusesproject.org or at 108 Front St. in Gurdon. High school students and younger will be admitted free. Proceeds from the concert will fund the educational programming of The Muses throughout the coming year. Registration Deadline

ARKADELPHIA — The registration deadline is Friday for the Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi for Health program, to be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays starting Monday, Sept. 27. Sessions will be held at the Henderson Community Education Center, 640 S. Sixth St. The cost is $30. Preregistration is necessary, and enrollment is limited. These eight-week sessions teach knowledge and skills needed to better manage arthritis and have been proven in studies to reduce arthritis pain and physician visits, as well as increase self-management abilities and communication with physicians. The Tai Chi for Better Health program was developed by Dr. Paul Lam. The class will be taught by Kris Elliott. Golf Tournament

BISMARCK — Ken Duke will host his seventh annual A Day With the Duke golf tournament at the DeGray State Park Golf Course. The four-person scramble costs $500 per team. Tee times will be at 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday and at 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Lunch will be provided both days. A Friday-night party will begin at 6 at the Caddo Valley Event Center, across from Cracker Barrel, with silent and live auctions. All golfers will receive a free pair of GreenJoys golf shoes. Service Day

ARKADELPHIA — Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community will host the annual Fall Tiger Serve Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The day’s events will start at the Elrod Center with breakfast for volunteers and conclude at the Elrod Center with lunch. Tiger Serve Day is organized and run by a student leadership team that includes 18 students who do the publicity and recruitment, visit project sites, buy tools and help generate energy for the day among fellow students. Zoo Visit

BENTON/BRYANT — The Saline County Library will host a visit from the Little Rock Zoo at each library location for all ages. Programs will be held at 10 a.m. at the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library in Bryant and at 11:30 a.m. at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton. Preregistration Deadline

BENTON — The Preregistration deadline is Saturday for the Dixie Car Club’s 32nd annual Car Show, to be held Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Saline County Fairgrounds, Interstate 30, exit 116, in Benton. There will be 110-point judging and awards in three divisions: Original (cars and trucks), Rod and Customs, and Antique Motorcycles (must be 25 years old), as well as new categories: Under Construction and Rat Rods. Special awards will include the Best Teen Trophy and the Ugliest Car. Registration will be from 8:30-11:30 a.m., with awards at 3 p.m. The show field will open at 7 a.m. with on-site trailer parking available. BENTON/BRYANT — Both branches of the Saline County Library will begin costume checkout from the Halloween Costume Closet on Saturday, Oct. 2. Costumes will be available until Oct. 30 or while supplies last. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. Selection depends on donations received year-round.
