Wife of detained US contractor visits him in Cuba

— The wife of an American contractor detained in Cuba since December on suspicion of spying has been allowed to come to the island and meet with him, according to a person familiar with the case.

The person tells The Associated Press that Alan and Judy Gross met in mid-August, apparently at a beach home provided by the Cuban government. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case and the fact the person was not authorized to speak to the media.

The 60-year-old Gross was working for a firm contracted by the U.S. Agency for International Development when he was arrested Dec. 3 and sent to prison. He has not been charged, but Cuban officials including President Raul Castro have accused him of spying.
