CLASS 7A/6A: Red Devils defuse Bombers’ offense

— Junior wide receiver D’Vone Mc-Clure ran for one touchdown and had a touchdown reception as Jacksonville beat Mountain Home 26-2 in the 7A/6A-East opener Thursday night at Jan Crow Stadium in Jacksonville.

Under first-year Coach Rick Russell, the Red Devils (3-1) have already surpassed their victory total from last year.

McClure caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Logan Perry with five seconds remaining in the second quarter to give Jacksonville a 13-0 halftime lead.

McClure put the game out of reach on a 13-yard touchdown run for a 26-2 lead with 4:55 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Mountain Home (1-3) scored its only points on a safety with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter when Jacksonville snapped the ball out of the end zone in punt formation.

Senior quarterback Tommy Feliccia was sacked four times for 27 yards in losses, and the Bombers were never inside the Red Devils 20.

Perry, a three-year starter, completed 13 of 19 passes for 217 yards. McClure caught five passes for 88 yards. Sophomore running back Shaquille Davis ran 8 times for 66 yards and caught 3 passes for 31 yards.

Senior running back Antwone Mosby ran for two touchdowns, including a 4-yarder to give the Red Devils a 19-2 lead with 7:14 remaining in the game. Mosby also ran 9 yards for a touchdown with 11:52 remainingin the first half.

Jacksonville’s halftime lead could have been greater, but it lost fumbles at the Mountain Home 20 and 7 and also ran out of downs at the Bombers 14.

Jacksonville also lost a fumble at the Mountain Home 37 on its first possession of the second half after a 35-yard pass completion from Perry to senior wide receiver Jamison Williams.
