Highway accidents kill two in Arkansas

— Two people died this week in separate single-vehicle accidents on Arkansas roads, according to the Arkansas State Police.

A Tuckerman man died and another person was injured Tuesday in Jackson County, according to a preliminary state police fatal-accident report.

Shortly before 6 p.m., a southbound 1998 Dodge driven by Robby G. King, 52, of Swifton ran off County Road 71 and struck a culvert, the report said.

Kings’ passenger, Charles M. Birdsong, 46, of Tuckerman, died from injuries suffered in the crash, the report said. King was taken to Harris Hospitalin Newport with unknown injuries.

A Kansas City, Mo., man was killed Wednesday when he wrecked his motorcycle on a rural stretch of state highway in Newton County, according to a preliminary state police report.

Samuel F. Barker Jr., 67, was killed at about 4:45 p.m. about 1 1 /2 miles west of Jasper on Arkansas 74, the report said.

Barker was riding a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle west on the highway when he lost control in a curve, ran off the north side of the road and hit a highway sign, the report said.

Barker was pronounced dead at the scene.
