Man who claimed self-defense faces murder charges

The Jackson County sheriff says capital murder charges have been filed against a man who claimed he killed his aunt and uncle in self-defense.

Sheriff David Lucas said Friday that 41-year-old Gary Paul Henley is being held in the county jail, and bond has been set at $1 million.

A release from the sheriff’s office on Wednesday said Henley told investigators he was stabbed in an attack about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday by 45-year-old Steven Lynn Bridgman and 48-year-old Ina Lynn Bridgman at a home in the Weldon community about 10 miles south of Newport, and then defended himself.

The Bridgmans’ bodies were found on the floor of a bathroom.
