6 A-SOUTH: Wolves take frustration out in rout

— It didn’t take long to take control.

Bouncing back with a bang from its first loss, Lake Hamilton scored twice in the first four minutes and didn’t let up until the sportsmanship rule was in effect for the second half of a 35-14 rout of Sheridan Friday night in the teams’ 6ASouth opener.

The 35-point sportsmanship rule was invoked after the Wolves went to halftime leading 35-0.

“We just kind of clicked tonight,” Lake Hamilton Coach Jerry Clay said.

The Wolves’ passing gamewas definitely in high gear. Quarterback Levi Runyan completed 11 of 15 passes for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns - all in the first half. Lake Hamilton stuck to running the ball with mostly the second team playing the abbreviated second half.

“We had some people open and Levi did a good job getting the ball to them,” Clay said.

Runyan’s touchdown tosses went to Dante Ransom, Dre Bennett and Dalton Daniels. Ransom led the Wolves with four receptions for 86 yards.

Lake Hamilton (3-1, 1-0 6ASouth) scored on five of its six first-half possessions. Austin Essner contributed a pair of short touchdown runs as theWolves had 296 total yards to Sheridan’s 98 at halftime.

“They just totally dominated us offensively and defensively,” first-year Sheridan Coach Louis Campbell said. “We never were in the ball game. It was embarrassing.”

Essner led the Wolves’ running backs with 31 yards on 10 carries. Sheridan’s Dalton Seamon had 59 yards on 14 carries.

The Wolves play Benton on Friday at Summit Bank Field, then host Pine Bluff.

“It’s not always going to be this easy, we know that,” Clay said. “Things worked for us.”

Morris forced a fumble that Lions running back Shannon Johnson recovered for a loss of 6 yards. A play later, Morris blocked a McClellan punt to set up Milhorn’s last touchdown.

As a unit, Texarkana’s defense sacked McClellan quarterback John Frazier four times and held the Lions to 73 yards.
