The administrator of the fund for victims of the Gulf oil spill says people should start getting bigger payments. And he says they will be getting them faster.
Kenneth Feinberg, administrator for the Gulf Coast Claims Facility, said in a news release Saturday that he is responding to criticism from residents and businesses that the payments have been too slow and too small.
Feinberg also says claims will from now on be sorted by industry. He says that will allow those reviewing the claims to apply a more specific, uniform set of standards when deciding how much a person or business will be paid.
The Gulf Coast is still recovering from the spill triggered April 20, when a rig explosion killed 11 workers and led to 206 million gallons of oil spewing from BP PLC’s undersea well.
