Junior quarterback Tyler Langley completed 12 of 20 passes for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns - all in the first half - in Conway’s 41-7 victory over Cabot in the 7A/6ACentral opener before a capacity crowd Friday night at John McConnell Stadium.

Conway (4-0) invoked the Arkansas Activities Association’s sportsmanship rule, and a continuously running clock, when junior Ivan Pelayo kicked the extra point following a 4-yard touchdown run by senior running back JeMarcus Harmon with 8:10 remaining in the third quarter.

Conway, which led 28-0 at halftime, has outscored its opponents 184-72 this fall.

The Wampus Cats are 4-0 for the first time since 2002 - when they captured their last conference championship - and beat the Panthers for the first time since 2006.

Cabot (2-2) was limited to only three first downs in the first three quarters.

“Against that team, to play so well on both sides … we just executed,” Wampus Cats Coach Clint Ashcraft said. “We just executed everything on both sides. That’s the best overall game we’ve played. Everything went right tonight.”

Senior utility back Desmond Cox had four receptions for 46 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown with 52 seconds remaining in the first half to push Conway’s lead to 28-0 at halftime.

Cox also scored on two 1-yard runs in the first half, taking direct snaps in the Wildcat formation.

Senior wide receiver Jalen Jones had three receptions for 77 yards.

Cox’s younger brother, sophomore wide receiver Brandon Cox, had two catches for 44 yards.

Harmon ran 14 times for66 yards.

After being stopped on its first two possessions, Conway scored on six of its next seven possessions.

Langley, who surpassed 1,000 yards passing this fall in the first half, threw a 5-yard touchdown to senior running back Trevor Maltbia with 1:15 remaining in the first quarter.

Desmond Cox ran for 1-yard touchdowns with 6:08 and 3:44 remaining in the first half.

His second touchdown, which gave Conway a 21-0 lead, capped a six-play, 77-yard drive.

The drive included a 47-yard

completion to Jones and a 16-yard completion to Brandon Cox.

Conway’s final touchdown came on a 4-yard run by junior running back Colin Fluesmeier with 11:17 remaining in the game.

Cabot averted the shutout on a 3-yard touchdown run by senior halfback Antonio Davis with 5:10 remaining.

“We got whipped on bothsides of the ball,” Cabot Coach Mike Malham said.

Senior fullback Spencer Smith led Cabot with 69 rushing yards 15 carries.
