Jackson’s wife: ’My heart will heal’ after affair

The wife of U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. says she and her husband have undergone counseling since he told her nearly two years ago of an extramarital affair.

Alderman Sandi Jackson tells the Chicago Sun-Times that when her husband first told her, she was “mortified and in agony,” but she didn’t want details.

She says when word of the affair became public last week, it was like opening the wound again.

Jackson says for now she wants to stay focused on her job and two children. She says her heart will heal.

The Jacksons were married in 1991.

Sandi Jackson also says her husband never had an intention of running for Chicago mayor. The Democratic congressman said previously he was mulling a run since Mayor Richard Daley announced he wouldn’t seek a seventh term.
