Coats for Kids

SEARCY — The 2010 Coats for Kids Campaign, sponsored by the Searcy Rotary Club, is starting. Barrels labeled with the Coats for Kids logo will be placed in schools, churches, banks and other locations throughout White County where donated coats may be placed. Organizations with coats to be donated, whether they have a barrel at their facility or not, may call Judy Steinsiek at (501) 268-8745 or Pete Steinsiek at (501) 305-3701 to have coats picked up. Individuals may also call for pickup. Organizations may call to request a collection barrel, which will be delivered, or to receive coats for distribution. Three cleaning establishments — Comet Cleaners, Halls Cleaners and Laundry, and Gladdens Cleaners — will clean the coats free of charge. The coats will be distributed to children through churches, schools and other organizations. For more information, call Judy or Pete Steinsiek.

Ozark Concert

MOUNTAIN HOME — KTLO, Mountain Home, Gastons of Lakeview and the Ozark Folk Center’s Committee of 100 will present a concert. Four of the Folk Center’s musical groups, as well as crafters, dancers and the Committee of 100’s “Life in the Mountains” gifts and crafts, will be featured. The concert will be at 2 p.m. in Dunbar Auditorium at Mountain Home High School. The Leatherwoods, Harmony, The Cobb Brothers and Sylamore Crossing will perform. Tickets are $10, and children younger than 12 will be admitted free. The tickets are available in Mountain Home at KTLO and in Mountain View at Centennial Bank and at the door the day of the concert.

Outdoor Movie

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will present Fly Away Home at 7:30 p.m. in Couch’s Garden behind Brown Chapel at Lyon College. The movie is free.

Deadline Extension

MELBOURNE — The deadline for entering the Miss North Central Arkansas District Fair Queen Pageant has been extended to Monday. The winner and first runner-up in the six-county NCA District Fair area are eligible to enter the pageant. For more information, contact a local pageant director, or a District Fair Queen packet can be downloaded off the website at www.ncadistrictfair.org.

Candidate Forum

CABOT — Cabot AARP Chapter 3267 will hold a candidate forum following the potluck meal at the meeting at 6 p.m. All candidates from the area are invited to attend and register to speak at the forum. President Duane VanSickle invites anyone interested in the candidates to attend. The chapter meets the fourth Monday of the month at the Cabot Senior Center, 600 N. Grant. Gourd Workshop

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will host a gourd-art workshop with Joyce Campbell from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 246 E. Main St. The cost for the class is $35. Campbell will bring gourds for purchase if participants don’t have one. Call (870) 793-3382 to register.

Eco-Fair

WALNUT RIDGE — The annual Eco-Fair at Williams Baptist College is set for 5-6 p.m. The event, which will focus on the importance of renewable resources, will be held on WBC’s Midkiff Lawn. The Eco-Fair will feature eco-friendly games and booths, as well as refreshments, music and prizes. Six educational booths will be set up, and those who participate in all six will be eligible for a $100 drawing. Faculty Recital

BEEBE — Arkansas State University-Beebe’s department of music will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Building Lecture Hall on the Beebe campus. The recital will be presented by instructors Brent Bristow on saxophone and Lauren Schack Clark on piano. The program will include selections by Michael Torke, Jacob Ter Veldhuis, William Grant Still, David Diamond and John Cheetham. The recital is free and open to the public. Golf Classic

BATESVILLE — The fourth annual fall golf classic will begin with tee time at 10 a.m. at the Course at Eagle Mountain. This is a four-person scramble presented by Citizens Bank. Lunch will be provided. Registration is $300 per team or $75 for individuals. The fee includes the greens fee, a golf cart, lunch and a chance for door prizes. Garage Sale

FAIRFIELD BAY — The St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Building Committee will host a garage sale/auction on Friday and Saturday at the Parish Hall, 250 Woodlawn Drive. The sale will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The auction will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. There will also be baked goods for sale, as well as brats and burgers. Latin Guitarist Concerts

FAIRFIELD BAY — The North Central Arkansas Foundation for Arts and Education will kick off the 2010-2011 concert season with two concerts by world-renowned Latin guitarist David Burgess. The first event will be a Dinner Concert Buffet at Indian Hills Country Club in Fairfield Bay at 6 p.m. Saturday with a cash bar from 5-6 p.m. Burgess will perform immediately after the dinner. Tickets for the buffet are $20 and may be purchased from the Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce and Foundation President Lea Berry. Call (501) 253-7909. The second event will be a free concert presented by Burgess at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, in the Clinton School Auditorium, at the corner of Joe Bowling Road, Fraser and Hall streets in Clinton. On Friday, Burgess will present concerts to three area schools. All concerts for the coming season are free to the public. Private donations will be accepted and are tax deductible.

Community Yard Sale

MELBOURNE — The city of Melbourne will hold its 20th annual Fall Communitywide Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. All sales will be held, rain or shine. A list of sales will be available for pickup at City Hall on Thursday and Friday. To be added to the list, call City Hall with your name and location by 2 p.m. Wednesday. Sales may be set up at Charles C. Miller Park. No sales will be allowed in front of Fred’s, Dollar General, Custom Cuts, The Bread of Life Bible Bookstore or the Hometown Market. 10th Anniversary
