More than 100 pounds of drugs collected in Searcy

The Searcy Police Department netted more than 100 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter medicine during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back event held over the weekend.

More than 100 agencies in Arkansas took part in the event, which was aimed at keeping danger chemicals out of the water supply and out of the hands of teens and children.

Searcy had five drop-off sites and a long list of volunteers who helped with the drug collection.

“Our community really stepped up and ran with this take-back event. Mayor Belinda LaForce supported this event from the beginning allowing numerous city departments to get involved. The Searcy Fire Department helped tremendously with the drop-off sites on Friday," said Searcy Police Chief Kyle Osborne. "Amy Burton, with Get Down Downtown, provided an additional drop-off site and a place for the community to learn about why we are doing this event. I would also like to thank the pharmacy tech students from ASU-Searcy and ASU-Beebe for volunteering to help with this endeavor.”

The event was sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
