Leavitt to speak at LR Touchdown Club

Former University of South Florida Coach Jim Leavitt will speak at the weekly meeting of the Little Rock Touchdown Club today at noon in the Embassy Suites hotel.

Leavitt took South Florida to four consecutive bowl games from 2005-2008, and a No. 2 ranking in 2007.

Little Rock Touchdown Club annual membership in $50. Lunch is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. Those who do not wish to eat can attend for $10. Group memberships are also available.

Arkansas gets victory in Tuscaloosa

Arkansas beat Alabama 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 25-20 Sunday in Tuscaloosa. Jasmine Norton had 15 kills and 14 digs. Haley Koop had a career-high nine digs.

“Our players got themselves ready and came hungry and ready to play well today,” Coach Robert Pulliza said. “Our talent is there and our physicality is there. We just have to keep working on our maturity and team camaraderie.”

Central Arkansas wins, keeps streak alive

Central Arkansas (11-6, 3-0) beat Stephen F. Austin 25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20 Saturday in Conway. Central Arkansas has won 25 consecutive conference matches, and 21 consecutive home matches. Taylor Hammonds had eight kills and a careerhigh eight blocks. Cristin Curl had 24 digs.

Arkansas State falls to Middle Tennessee

Arkansas State (6-8, 0-2) lost to Middle Tennessee 25-18, 25-18, 28-19 Sunday in Jonesboro. Sadie Clark led with nine kills. Megan Baska had 16 digs.

Sugar Bears lose in Conway

Central Arkansas women’s soccer (4-4-1) lost to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 3-0 Sunday in Conway. Central Arkansas allowed all three goals in two minutes of the second half. Central Arkansas had won its last three matches.

Central Arkansas men lose late

Central Arkansas (1-6, 0-1) lost to Missouri State 1-0 in double overtime Saturday in Conway.

Missouri State scored in the final minute on a free kick.

Central Arkansas had just one shot on goal. Mickey Segura was given a red card in the first overtime.

John Brown beats undefeated foe

John Brown (4-3) gave Oklahoma Wesleyan its first loss this season Saturday 4-1 in Siloam Springs. Sasha Viatrov scored two goals. Gabriel Duarte and Juan Iraola each scored a goal.

Lyon men win, women lose

Lyon men (5-3, 1-1) beat Martin Methodist 2-1 Saturday in Pulaski, Tenn. Robert Hall scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. Bill Jefferies scored the first goal. Lyon women (5-3-1, 1-1) lost to Martin Methodist 1-0.

CROSS COUNTRY

UALR runs second in Memphis

UALR men finished second Saturday at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic in Memphis. Harding women finished ninth, the highest finish for a Division II school. There were 30 teams in the men’s event and 32 teams in the women’s event.

GOLF

Tubert, Razorbacks win in Oklahoma

Arkansas won the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla. on Sunday. Freshman Emily Tubert shot 69-72-70 to win the individual title. Arkansas shot 291 in the final round, the lowest final round by 10 shots.
