Trails to be opened with group ride Saturday

— Pinnacle Mountain State Park will celebrate the grand opening of the Jackfork and Rabbit Ridge mountain bike trails at 9 a.m. Saturday - just in time for national Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.

Dignitaries will speak briefly, followed by an official first group ride on the trails. Anyone is welcome to ride along;

park guidelines require the use of helmets.

The park does not rent bicycles, but Ron King of ReCycle Bikes for Kids will bring reconditioned mountain bikes for children who don’t have one to ride. Bicycle shops will help fit children to bikes.

Academy Sports + Outdoors has donated helmets, and representatives from Chainwheel, Arkansas Cycling & Fitness and The Community Bicyclist will help new cyclists on the Rabbit Ridge Trail. And a trials rider from Chainwheel will demonstrate bike tricks.

Dignitaries set to attend include Joe Jacobs, manager of marketing and revenue for the Arkansas State Parks, who led the trail-building effort in his spare time;

Josh Jeffers, assistant park superintendent for Pinnacle Mountain; park volunteer coordinator Abby Cress; and Pulaski County Judge Buddy Villines.

More information about the trail is available from central Arkansas bike shops and from the park at (501) 868-5806.
