8 in state win writing award

— Eight Arkansas high school seniors are among 543 students to be recognized this year as outstanding writers by the National Council of Teachers of English.

The recipients of the 2010 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing were chosen from among 1,641 students who were nominated in their junior year by their teachers in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada, the Virgin Islands and American schools abroad.

The Arkansas honorees are:

David Daily, Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock.

Renwick Hudson, Sarah Plavcan and Margaret Schweiger, Fayetteville High School.

Sean Rose, Little Rock Central High School.

Anna Li, Little Rock Christian Academy.

Emilie Tallent, Mount St. Mary Academy in Little Rock.

John Phillians, Wynne High School.

The number of winners from each state is determined by doubling the number of the state’s representatives in Congress, although a state may fall below its designated number of winners if there are fewer outstanding entries than the state is allowed.
