National Guard to conduct mass-casualty exercise with UAMS

Downtown Little Rock will be witness to a full-scale exercise Sunday between the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Army Aviators of the Arkansas National Guard to practice the medical response to a mass casualty event.

The exercise will begin with a simulated C-130 crash. Ground medics will practice transporting wounded personnel to flight medics, who will then fly the wounded to the UAMS helipad via one UH-60 Blackhawk MEDEVAC helicopter and two LUH-72 Lakota helicopters. UAMS personnel will be on hand to receive the incoming patients

Several units with the 77th Theater Aviation Brigade are participating in the exercise to keep their skills sharp and practice their response to state disasters.
