Pollution agency targets Kensett sewer system

— The city of Kensett has been ordered by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality to fix its sewer system so large amounts of storm water don’t get mixed in with sewage and overload the system.

The order followed inspections that found the sewage system had been overloaded by storm water and was sending raw sewage out into city streets and into a creek.

The Daily Citizen newspaper reported Tuesday that Steve Brown, head of the city’s water and sewer department, said the city had already begun the repairs before ADEQ issued its order.
