Weekend brings ‘Rowdy Friends,’ ASO’s new music director

“The Rowdy Friends” will heat up Verizon Arena in North Little Rock with a night of country music at the American Freedom Festival at 7 p.m. Saturday, as reported in Thursday’s Arkansas Weekend section. Hank Williams Jr., Jamey Johnson, Colt Ford, Josh Thompson and The Grascals will perform in this tribute to the men and women of the armed services. Tickets are $27-$131.50 plus handling fees.

For the classically inclined, Philip Mann inaugurates his term as music director of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra with concerts at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Center Music Hall in downtown Little Rock. Kevin Cole solos in George Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F major. Also on the program: Leonard Bernstein’s Candide Overture and Antonin Dvorak’s “New World” Symphony. Tickets are $14-$48.
