Arkansas to get $7.3M to expand broadband access

— Members of Arkansas’ congressional delegation say the state will get $7.3 million in federal stimulus money to expand access to broadband services.

An announcement Thursday from the offices of Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Reps. Marion Berry, Vic Snyder and Mike Ross, all D-Ark., said the grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture would be combined with more than $2.4 million in private investment.

The release said that money would allow Windstream Corp. to provide digital telephone, high-speed Internet and high-definition video and entertainment services to residential and business customers. The network stands to benefit approximately 15,000 people, more than 330 businesses and 33 anchor institutions.
