Lottery chief reverses on comp time

— The director of the Arkansas lottery says he has eliminated a policy that allowed salaried employees to take compensatory time for the extra hours they put in during the lottery’s launch last year.

Lottery chief Ernie Passailaigue told the Arkansas Lottery Commission on Thursday that workers who have already taken comp time off will have to make up for that time. That could come by counting vacation time or taking unpaid days.

The comp time issue was a sore point at a commission meeting three weeks ago. Two commissioners at the earlier meeting voted to fire Passailaigue, but the rest of the panel wouldn’t go along.

Commissioners were upset that Passailaigue put the comp time policy in place without their knowledge.
