Pope County jailer suspected of giving inmates tobacco

— A Pope County jailer has been arrested and fired for allegedly delivering tobacco to inmates.

Forty-two-year-old Bobby Wells was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of furnishing prohibited articles to inmates.

The Courier newspaper reports that Sheriff Aaron DuVall says Wells carried cigarettes and chewing tobacco to inmates.

Wells said tobacco was recently found in cells and that another employee saw Wells taking items from his truck and hiding them in his clothing.
