LITTLE ROCK SeaPort Airlines announced record passenger traffic during the month of July in each of the four Arkansas communities it serves, including Hot Springs.
On a year-over-year basis, traffic in SeaPort’s Arkansas markets increased 89 percent, said Claire James, marketing coordinator for the airline in Portland, Ore. In Hot Springs, passenger levels increased 87 percent year-over-year, from 133 passengers in July 2010 to 249 in July of this year.
When SeaPort initiated service at Hot Springs, Harrison, El Dorado and Jonesboro in October 2009, the communities had been without scheduled air service since 2007. Service was instituted with the help of a Small Community Air Service Development Program grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
When service was launched, all markets were served exclusively from Memphis. In July, SeaPort launched new service to Dallas from Hot Springs, El Dorado and Harrison. SeaPort also added nonstop service between Harrison and Kansas City, which was followed by nonstop service between Jonesboro and Kansas City in January.
