TEXARKANA — The attorney for two former Tony Alamo followers says a request to reduce a $66 million judgment against the convicted evangelist minimizes the men’s suffering.
Spencer Ondrisek and Seth Calagna were awarded $33 million each by a jury that found Alamo ordered John Kolbek to beat them. Kolbek — who died in January — was ordered to pay each man $1.5 million.
Alamo attorney John Wesley Hall Jr. argues that the award against Alamo is unfair when compared with that against Kolbek.
The Texarkana Gazette reports that a motion by attorney David Carter says Kolbek’s actions “pales” when compared with Alamo and that Alamo orchestrated the abuse.
Alamo is serving a 175-
year prison term after being convicted of taking young girls across state lines for sex.
