White County man arrested after chase, standoff

— A White County man was arrested Thursday after he fled from police, broke into a home and held the resident against his will, authorities said.

Michael Jones, 40, was being sought on a warrant for first-degree battery around 6 p.m. when he refused to stop for deputies in Searcy, according to a news release.

Police say Jones led authorities on a brief chase to a nearby mobile home park, where he attempted to back into a police car before running off, breaking into a nearby home and holding the homeowner against his will.

Authorities say Jones eventually agreed to release the homeowner. Jones was then arrested without further incident.

Jones is facing charges of fleeing and false imprisonment. The initial warrant was issued because Jones is accused of stabbing a man earlier this year. He was also wanted on a parole violation warrant.

Jones is due in court Tuesday.
