Crystal Bridges will join the Louvre in Paris and two other museums in the United States in a four-year collaboration resulting in annual “focused installations” of American and European art and other programming, the Bentonville museum announced Wednesday.
Paintings in the first of these exhibitions, entitled “American Encounters: Thomas Cole and the Narrative Landscape,” will be displayed May 12 through Aug. 13 at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
“At each of the museums the works will be displayed within their permanent collections galleries to add new dimension and nuance to the museums’ own holdings,” Crystal Bridges’ news release said.
Its partners are the Musee du Louvre in Paris, France; Terra Foundation for American Art of Chicago and Paris; and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.
Read Thursday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for more details on works by artists such as Cole and Asher B. Durand that will be part of this installation exploring the birth of American landscape painting.
