Former Arkansas quarterback and Springdale High School standout Mitch Mustain was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of selling drugs, according to Los Angeles authorities.

Mustain, 22, who finished his collegiate career at the University of Southern California, was arrested just after 8 p.m. local time, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department website.

According to the Los Angeles Times, police said his arrest came as part of a sting operation.

Mustain was booked on $30,000 bail, Officer Bruce Borihanh said.

Details of the arrest were not immediately released.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Mustain was released on bail but Borihanh said he could not confirm that and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail website still listed him as being in custody late Wednesday morning.

Mustain was a standout quarterback for Springdale High School, helping lead the Bulldogs to an undefeated Class 5A state championship season in 2005, while earning Parade All-American honors. He, along with four other high school teammates, were part of a highly-touted recruiting class. Mustain and three of those teammates signed with Arkansas, where their high school head coach, Gus Malzahn, had taken an offensive coordinator position.

The Razorbacks went on to win the 2006 SEC Western Division the next year. Mustain started eight games for the Razorbacks as a freshman, going 8-0 as a starter. He was benched late in the year, however, and transferred to USC prior to his sophomore season.

He started only one game at USC, a 20-16 loss to Notre Dame last November, and has been working out in preparation for the upcoming NFL Draft.
