U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner will not be visiting Northwest Arkansas on Friday because of weather-related travel issues.
Geithner’s visit was to learn more about Arkansas’ success in turning university-based research into new technologies and economic opportunities. Part of his trip involved a visit to NanoMech in Springdale, a high-profile success story involving university research, innovation, entrepreneurism, and the private sector. Geithner was also scheduled to meet with a group of business leaders for a roundtable discussion at the Arkansas World Trade Center in Rogers.
Geithner’s office indicated that it will attempt to reschedule the visit in the near future.
Northwest Arkansas, as well as much of the nation's midsection and East Coast, has been hit with a severe winter storm, disrupting business, schools and travel.
