Prosecutor: No retrial in Curtis Vance rape case

— The man convicted of killing a Little Rock television anchorwoman won't be tried for a second time on a rape charge in Lee County.

Prosecutor Fletcher Long said Thursday that the former Marianna teacher told him after the jury hung Wednesday that she doesn't want to go through another trial.

Curtis Lavelle Vance was charged in the April 2008 rape after he became a suspect in the beating death of KATV morning show host Anne Pressly. DNA extracted from a hair found in Pressly's bedding match DNA from the rape in Marianna, in which Vance was already a suspect. Both samples matched Vance's DNA.

Defense lawyer Bill James attacked the validity of the DNA evidence and Vance told jurors he was innocent. The jury hung after three hours of deliberations.
