TODAY

Piano Recital

SEARCY — The Harding University music department will present a solo piano recital featuring Associate Music Professor Scott Carrell at 7 p.m. in the Reynolds Recital Hall. The recital is free and open to the public. The performance will focus on French composers such as Chopin, Debussy, Saint-Saëns, Chabrier, Poulenc, Boulanger and Gallon. Ribbon Cutting

BATESVILLE — There will be a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. at Citizens Bank-Main Branch for the CeeBee Playzone.

Spaghetti Dinner, Cake Auction

HORSESHOE BEND — Faith Presbyterian Church will host a Spaghetti Dinner and Cake Auction from 4-6 p.m. in the church Community Hall. The dinner includes spaghetti, as well as Italian bread and salad, with a cake auction following the dinner. Tea and coffee will be offered. The cost is $5 per person with the proceeds going to the Faith Presbyterian mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Faith Presbyterian Church is at the corner of Church and Third streets in Horseshoe Bend. Carryout is also available.

SATURDAY

Food Festival

SEARCY — St. James Catholic Church’s third annual International Food Festival and Silent Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the church hall, 1102 Pioneer Road. Enjoy an evening of tasting foods from around the world, as well as a silent auction. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Raffle tickets are available for prizes of $200 and $500, as well as lots of auction items. All proceeds will go toward the principal of the newly built church.

MONDAY

Bingo Night

HORSESHOE BEND — The Horseshoe Bend Kiwanis has started its bingo night for the season. It will be at 7 p.m. every Monday in the Crown Point Resort recreational room.

TUESDAY

Sons of Thunder

SEARCY — The Sons of Thunder men’s ministry will meet at Valley Baptist Church at 6:30 p.m. Valley Baptist is on Arkansas 36 West in Searcy. Sons of Thunder is a nondenominational men’s group that meets the second Tuesday of each month. The group will have a meal, worship and testimonies. All men are welcome. The meal this month will be pork barbecue with all the trimmings. Call (501) 281-0760 for more information.

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Chamber of Commerce will host an event to announce the launch of AT&T’s mobile broadband network in Batesville at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Chamber, 409 Vine St. For more information, call (870) 793-2378.

The Underpants

BEEBE — The Arkansas State University-Beebe Theater Department will perform The Underpants on Friday, Feb. 11, through Sunday, Feb. 13 in the Owen Center Theater. The Underpants, by Carl Sternheim and adapted by Steve Martin, is directed by ASU-Beebe student Cory Wray. Megan King is the set designer, and Owen Bailey is the costume designer, while lights and sound are done by Wray. The Underpants will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 12, and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. Parental guidance is suggested for seeing the show. Seating is unreserved/first-come, first-served, and the theater will open 30 minutes prior to curtain. Tickets will be for sale at the door beginning an hour before showtime. Ticket prices are $10 for general admission; and $5 for seniors, students, military personnel and educators. ASU-Beebe students, faculty and staff are entitled to two free tickets to any performance; an ASUB ID card must be presented to obtain these free tickets. Second Friday Event

BATESVILLE — The guest artist for Batesville’s Second Friday Event held on Main Street on Friday, Feb. 11, will be Artists in Education artist Patty Carreras. She will provide a short comedy piece starting at 6:30 p.m. Carreras has been working professionally in all types of theater for more than 18 years. She has an undergraduate degree in theater and film from the State University of New York at Fredonia and a Master of Arts degree in theater and film from SUNY at Buffalo. She works for the University of Memphis as an adjunct professor, teaching aesthetic education to education majors.

Bake Sale

SEARCY — The Liberty Bank Relay for Life team will have a Valentine’s Day Bake Sale on Friday, Feb. 11; Saturday, Feb. 12; and Monday, Feb. 14, at all Liberty Bank locations in Searcy. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. For more information, call Diana Crawford at (501) 279-2789.

Soap-making Workshop

POWHATAN — Powhatan Historic State Park will host a soap-making workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. The registration fee is $20 per person, which covers the cost of all materials. Participants will receive a booklet of soap recipes and several bars of homemade soap. Bring protective clothing, as some materials used are caustic and can burn. Class size is limited. Iris Society Meeting

SEARCY — Maris Fletcher, a White County Master Gardener, will address the White County Iris Society at its regular meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the home of Paul and Joli Love, 605 E. Race St. in Searcy. Her topic will be “Year-round Vegetable Gardening.” All interested parties are invited to attend. Visitors are welcome.
