Three killed in pair of wrecks on snowy I-40

— Three people, including a 1-year-old boy from Florida, were killed in a pair of wrecks Wednesday on snowy Interstate 40.

Arkansas State Police said the boy, Aiden McLane and 23-year-old Barbara McLane were killed in a collision on I-40 near Brinkley. Linda Sample, 57, died in a wreck on I-40 at the 165 mile marker in Lonoke County.

According to a preliminary accident report, Barbara McLane was driving a 1994 Jeep west around 9:45 a.m. when she lost control and struck a Freightliner. The Jeep was then struck head-on by a 2006 Volvo.

Barbara and Aiden McLane died from unspecified injuries. Three other passengers in the Jeep, including a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old, suffered unspecified injuries in the wreck and were taken to Baptist Hospital in Stuttgart, police said. No one in the Freightliner or the Volvo was hurt.

Authorities say Sample, meanwhile, was eastbound in a Ford sport utility vehicle shortly after 9 a.m. when she lost control, struck one vehicle and then hit another one head-on. The other drivers, who authorities did not immediately identify, were not hurt.
