Adult, 2 children die in Jonesboro apartment fire

— Authorities in Jonesboro say a second child has died in a fire that also claimed the life of an adult.

According to the Red Cross, the fire happened at on Central Street.

The agency said an adult and two children died, while three other people in another unit were displaced.

Assistant Chief Kevin Miller told Jonesboro television station KAIT that the second child died at a hospital as a result of the fire. Another child was hospitalized.

Fire officials have not released the names of the victims because family members had not been notified.

The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. and the cause is being investigated.

Jonesboro Division Chief Marty Hamrick said there were no fire fatalities in Jonesboro in 2010.
