Arkansas' newest congressional members were given committee assignments today — Rep. Tim Griffin to the foreign affairs panel and Rep. Rick Crawford to three subcommittees, including one where he will serve as vice chairman.
Rep. Mike Ross, meanwhile, will serve on three subcommittees, including the key health panel, during this 112th Congress.
“Subcommittees matter because that’s where a lot of work is done in terms of holding committee hearings and drafting legislation,” Ross said.
“I am humbled to have the opportunity to continue the tradition of Arkansans serving on the Foreign Affairs committee," Griffin said. "I am honored and excited to work on important issues such as deployment and use of our military, promotion of democracy and human rights, advancement of international peace and stability, and control of illegal narcotics.”
Crawford was appointed to the panels on highways and transit as well as water resources and environment. He was named vice chairman of the subcommittee on economic development, public buildings and emergency management.
“I could not be happier with my subcommittee assignments and I’m honored Chairman [John] Mica put his trust in me to vice chair the economic dDevelopmens Subcommittee,” Crawford said. That subcommittee oversees FEMA, among other emergency preparedness programs.
