NLR reports 16.4 percent decrease in crime

Police in North Little Rock say the city experienced a 16.4 percent decrease in overall crime and a nearly 32 percent decrease in violent crime in 2010.

“There are a number of factors that can contribute to reduction in crime; one of them being police actions," Chief Danny Bradley said in a news release. "I believe that more effective use of data by the department, increased awareness of citizens, and the initiative of officers and detectives were significant factors in achieving the crime reduction.”

According to figures released by the department Friday, robberies in 2010 fell to 184 from 244 in 2009 while aggravated assaults fell from 399 to 257. Murders were down by half, from 10 in 2009 to 5 in 2010.

Property crime fell 14 percent while burglaries were down 28 percent, from 1,556 in 2009 to 1,124 in 2010, the department said.
