The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has hired a new athletics director.
Lonza Hardy Jr., who has been in that position at Hampton University in Virginia since 2007, will resign effective Sept. 6 to join the UAPB program.
During Hardy's tenure as athletics director at Hampton in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, the Pirates program won 11 championships.
Last summer, the university’s athletics program was ranked as the No.1 athletics program among the Historically Black Colleges and Universities by the Learfield Sports Group.
"We are very privileged to have been able to recruit someone with his qualifications and accomplishments," said Lawrence A. Davis, Jr., UAPB's chancellor.
