Officer shoots gun-wielding man near River Market

An officer fired shots at a suspect who aimed a gun at him in the River Market area early Saturday morning, wounding the suspect.

Around 2:05 a.m., officers directing the crowd away from the busy Little Rock night spot heard several gunshots. Officers saw a black man fleeing from the crowd holding a handgun. At the corner of Markham and Scott in front of the Hop Diner, one of the officers ordered the man to stop.

As he did, he turned around toward the officer with the gun. The officer, who has not been named, fired at the suspect, hitting him three times, in the upper torso, the mid-torso and upper thigh, all on the right side of the body.
