Lonoke woman dies during Spring River rafting outing

— Authorities have recovered the body of a Lonoke woman who drowned when she became wedged between rocks on some falls in Hardy.

Police Chief Ernie Rose and Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts told the Batesville Daily Guard that 42-year-old Carla Jo Davenport died Monday during a rafting out on the Spring River with her husband and 7-year-old son.

The officers say the raft got hung up on the rocks and Davenport’s husband, Tommy, got out and tried to free it. Counts says when Carla Davenport got out to help him, she lost her footing and fell into water.

She was pulled head-first between the rocks as hundreds of pounds of water poured over her.

Rose says Tommy Davenport and two others tried to pull his wife out, but were unsuccessful.
