Synthetic marijuana arrest made in Searcy

— A tobacco shop owner in Searcy has been arrested for possession of a synthetic form of marijuana.

Police arrested 57-year-old Rickey Lee Rhodes of Kensett after the substance taken from Mom & Pops Tobacco Store was analyzed at the State Crime Laboratory and determined to be synthetic marijuana.

Rhodes told The Daily Citizen that the substance is legal and is sold only for use as potpourri, incense or smelling salts.

Synthetic marijuana has been banned in the past year by several cities and counties in the state. A state law banning the substance was approved earlier this year.
