Ukrainian woman tells of threats; fiance jailed

— Only a few days after moving to the United States, a Ukrainian woman told deputies the new Arkansas fiance she met on the Internet had threatened to kill her and then kill himself late Thursday night.

About 11:13 p.m. Thursday, Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies were called to 35121 Arkansas 107 in the northern part of the county.

When they arrived, they met Lesya Kravchy, who had recently arrived from Ukraine and spoke “very little English,” according to a sheriff’s office report.

With the help of translators, Kravchy told investigators that she had moved to Pulaski County two days before to live with her fiance, Mike Luchsinger, whom she met over the Internet.

Kravchy told investigators that her fiance had “an extensive firearms collection” and that his “chief hobby was shooting.”

She had told him earlier in the day that she wanted to move back to Ukraine, and, according to detectives, the man became irate and told her he would kill her and then himself if she persisted with that idea.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the house, but they were able to enter without incident, said sheriff ’s office spokesman Lt. Cody Burk.

Once inside, deputies found Luchsinger apparently passed out on his bed. He was arrested and charged with felony terroristic threatening.

Luchsinger was released from the Pulaski County jail Friday about 1:02 p.m. after posting $3,500 bond.

Kravchy, who had no money, was taken by deputies to the Little Rock Compassion Center.

Center employees declined to go into detail about the case Friday, but they did say the woman was with them and that they were in contact with the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington and were trying to find a way to reunite Kravchy with her family.
