— Discover the relationship between predator and prey by being a cottontail rabbit or coyote in a game of frozen tag from 10-11 a.m. at the Jacksonport State Park Visitor Center. Try to survive as a rabbit or develop the hunting skills of a coyote. Participants are invited to bring friends and have fun playing quick-frozen critters.

Blood Drive NEWPORT - The Red Cross will host a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Insurance and Investment Room in the ASU-Newport Student/ Community Center. The need for blood is constant because blood’s shelf life is 35 days, and platelets’ is five days. To determine eligibility to donate, visit www.givelife.org and click on Being a Donor.

FRIDAY Tournament Deadline CHEROKEE VILLAGE - The deadline for team slot registration for the Tommy Bolt Memorial golf tournament is Friday. The entry fee is $250 per team. The tournament will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 25, at Cherokee Village’s championship South Course. Registration forms are available at the South and North Course pro shops, or by contacting David Webb at (870) 257-2555 or Oral Henderson at (870) 257-2452. Three flights will be set. A $300 gift certificate will be awarded for first place, $240 for second place and $180 for third. Four par-3, hole-in-one prizes include a boat, two golf carts and a car.

Becoming a Real Soldier JACKSONPORT - Becoming a Real Soldier will be held from 6-6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonport State Park Visitor Center. Participants will learn how and why Confederate soldiers’ views of the Civil War changed. Children can dress up in a soldier’s uniform and equipment.

Depression Seminar SEARCY - The Dr. Robert E. Elliott Foundation will present an “Understanding Depression” seminar from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Southwest Middle School Cafeteria, 1000 W. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY Kiwanis Club Rib Cook BATESVILLE - The Batesville Kiwanis Club’s Dr. Jim “Doc” Stalker Rib Cook will take place from 2-6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Baby-back ribs will be $15 per rack and can be picked up at First United Methodist Church on Main Street at the upper entrance of the Education Building. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

New Life Church Prayer Meeting CABOT - New Life Church Cabot will hold a 12-hour prayer meeting from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday at 201 S. 10th St. Various praise teams and musicians will minister throughout the night and provide prayer. Participants will pray for Praise in the Park, to be held Aug. 13; church leaders; city government; city businesses; and other groups, as directed. A continental breakfast will be served. To get to New Life Church, take exit 19 into Cabot. The church is behind McDonald’s.

Book Signing MOUNTAIN HOME - Donald R. Loedding will sign copies of his book The Search for the Bearded Clam, a collection of short stories, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Hastings Entertainment in Mountain Home, near Harps.

Youth Fishing Derby JACKSONVILLE - The 14th annual Youth Fishing Derby will be held on Dupree Park Lake. Fishing enthusiasts, ages 15 and under, are invited to join in the fun and fishing. Music in the Mountains HORSESHOE BEND - The monthly Music in the Mountains Show will be held at the Horseshoe Bend Theatre. The Highway 289 Band will host a hamburger cookout in front of the theater starting at 5 p.m., with the show starting at 6 in the theater. Band members’ bikes will be on display, and music will be continuous until 8:30. The bluegrass band Blue Dogwood and several other guests playing country, blues, gospel and Southern rock will perform. Concessions will be available. Admission is by donation. Civil War Soldier Class JACKSONPORT - During the Civil War, soldiers faced many difficulties, such as homesickness, starvation and disease. From 2:30-3 p.m. at the Jacksonport State Park Visitor Center, attendees can learn about these difficulties and some of the drills soldiers practiced during the winter.

Flags of the Confederacy JACKSONPORT - The flag of the Confederate States of America went through many changes during four short years. From 3:30-4 p.m. at the Jacksonport State Park Visitor Center, visitors can see examples of the different flags and learn from a park interpreter why the design kept changing.

Frog-Life-Cycle Presentation JACKSONPORT - Frogs help control the insect population and are a good food source for larger animals. Hop through the frog life cycle and all the special things that make frogs worthy from 6-6:30 p.m. at the Jacksonport State Park Visitor Center.

Tatting Workshop for Beginners POWHATAN - Tatting, a very old form of lace making, reached its peak during Victorian times. Participants will learn how to make bookmarks, lace collars, doilies and more with the Victorian method of tatting with a tatting shuttle from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will learn about the history of tatting, where to find supplies and how to read patterns. They will receive the information needed to continue advancing their tatting skills. Materials and patterns will be provided to begin a simple take-home project. The cost of the class is $15 per person. Class size is limited to six.
