FAYETTEVILLE Fayetteville police released a statement Wednesday detailing the attempted robbery at a gold exchange store Tuesday afternoon.
Police said Nathan Harold Chism, 32, entered Arkansas Gold and Silver Exchange on College Avenue with the intention of robbing it. Officials say Chism stabbed employee Christopher Leach in the arm.
Leach then shot Chism with a handgun, police said.
Both men were transported to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment. Authorities say Leach was treated and released while Chism remains hospitalized.
Police Sgt. Craig Stout said Chism was in surgery Tuesday evening and listed in stable condition Wednesday morning.
Stout said Chism's medical needs are a priority right now and no charges have been filed in the matter.
