Ross seeks details into decisions on post office closures

Arkansas Rep. Mike Ross is asking the Postmaster General explain the Postal Service's closing process after his office received three letters stating that three post offices in Arkansas would be closed.
Ross, from Prescott, wrote a letter to Patrick Donahoe requesting a full accounting of the review process for what post offices wind up on the chopping block, including how postal service employees are selected to conduct the public hearings into the possible closures.
The U.S. Postal Service sent letters dated June 21 announcing a final determination had been made to close three post offices in Ross’s district — Boles, Ozan and Parks.
The letters came just days after public hearings were held.
Then, three days later, Ross' office received emails that said the letters were sent erroneously and were being retracted.
Ross said it appears the Postal Service decides, with little community input, which sites to close.
He is requesting a detailed account of how the miscommunication to his office happened, saying it “makes it hard to believe that a simple clerical error was to blame. At best, it appears that letters were pre-prepared to notify of closures and the only error was the premature sending of the letters.”
