Lonoke County search on for man missing in flood

By The Associated Press

This article was published May 3, 2011 at 11:07 a.m.

Authorities are searching for a man whose vehicle was swept away in high waters after he drove past barricades onto a flooded highway exit.

Lonoke County Sheriff Jim Roberson says a half dozen boats and two dive teams are scouring the water around Highway 236 near Lonoke on Tuesday morning. Authorities found the man’s vehicle, but not the driver.

His name hasn’t been released.

Roberson says the missing man called his wife early Tuesday and told her he was neck-deep in water and trying to get to dry land.

Roberson says the water is three to five feet deep along parts of the road and even deeper in nearby ditches.
