Game and Fish agents catch 3 shocking Ark. catfish

By The Associated Press

This article was published May 5, 2011 at 7:53 a.m.

— Arkansas wildlife officers suspected they had caught some illegal anglers when they found two boats full of catfish, three men and no fishing tackle.

The Texarkana Gazette reported Thursday that the men were charged with using an electrical device to take fish.

The men were caught on the Red River in Miller County near the Index Bridge. Game and Fish Commission Lt. Jackie Runion says the men used gear to send an electrical charge through the water, then used nets to gather the fish.

Wildlife officers seized the boats and issued the men citations that would net $8,000 in fines.

Runion says the fish were given to the elderly and needy.

It's easy to get catfish by shocking but it's very easy to get caught too.
Ain't worth it.
I've heard that when you shock fish it will make them sterile.
They knew better.

If a person would of been in the water swimming or diving would they have floated to the top? Or just been sterile? Thats kind of a lazy way to catch fish. Unless one has a big illegal family to feed.
