Benton Book Club

BENTON — The Benton Book Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library in Benton to discuss the club’s chosen title. The group is open to adults 18 and older. Call (501) 778-4766 for more information.

TUESDAY

Yoga Class

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Coronado Fitness Center will begin an Introduction to Yoga class in May to be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Tuesdays. The class is for true beginners, as well as seasoned practitioners seeking a refresher course. Yoga can improve performance for anyone involved in sports, such as golf and tennis; provide the benefit of using breath to aid in strengthening and stretching the body; focus the mind to improve balance; and provide relaxation. Comfortable, loose clothing is recommended for the class.

WEDNESDAY

Card Party

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — The Hot Springs Village Republican Women invite all women in the Village to a Spring Card Party from 1-4 p.m. at the Coronado Community Center. The cost is $6 per person. A variety of refreshments, coffee and tea will be provided, and there will be door prizes of gift baskets and gift certificates. Additionally, there will be a bake sale and patriotic jewelry for sale. Any type of game can be played — hand and foot, bridge, euchre, pinochle, train, sequence mahjongg, etc. Preferably, tickets will be sold for full tables of four, six or eight, but any singles will be matched up with a like group. Be sure to mention how many tables and whether they are for four, six or eight people. This is a fundraiser for the Republican Women, but everyone is welcome.

THURSDAY

Quilt Guild Meeting

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — A quilt teacher, lecturer and judge for more than 45 years, Caroline Peterson Searls of Bella Vista will be the guest speaker for the Village Quilt Guild meeting. Her presentation, “Closets, Shelves, Trunks and Under the Bed,” will cover all the ways a quilter can use, decorate with and store her quilt collection. Searls will also conduct two workshops — a half-day session on the Arkansas Star and a full-day session on the Tucked Pineapple design. The Village Quilt Guild meets at 9:30 a.m. the second Thursday of each month at Faith Lutheran Church, Andorra Drive at DeSoto Boulevard. Visitors are welcome.

Art Reception

BENTON — The works of mother-daughter art duo Norma Crafton and Lena Berry will be on display at the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library throughout May. A reception in their honor will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the same location. The display and reception are open to the public. Call (501) 778-4766 for more information.

FRIDAY

Henderson Commencement

ARKADELPHIA — Spring commencement ceremonies will be held at Henderson State University with approximately 375 undergraduate and graduate students receiving degrees. The ceremony for the School of Business and Teachers College will begin at 3 p.m. in the Wells Center gymnasium, followed at 6 p.m. by the ceremony for the Ellis College of Arts and Sciences. Faculty charges will be presented by Wendi Boyles, instructor of marketing, and Janice O’Donnell, assistant professor of chemistry. The student responses will be given by Cayla B. Smith and Heather C. Collier. Henderson will honor Jimmie Chaffin as its distinguished alumnus. Following a special banquet, he will speak during the commencement ceremonies.

SATURDAY

Daylily Society Meeting

HOT SPRINGS — The Hot Springs Daylily Society will meet at 10 a.m. in the Shelton Room of the United Methodist Church Christian Life Center, 1100 Central Ave. Kay and Charles Shearer will present the program, “A Preview of the Baton Rouge National.” Guests are invited.

Toast and Roast

Rick Dial, actor, business leader and voice of the Malvern High School Leopards, will open himself up to an evening of accolades and good-natured ribbing as the subject of the annual Toast and Roast, sponsored by the Hot Spring County Medical Foundation to benefit the Hot Spring County Medical Center, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lodge at The Family Farm, 18448 U.S. 67, just outside Malvern. The Toast and Roast is sponsored by the Hot Spring County Medical Foundation and will benefit the Hot Spring County Medical Center. Tickets may be purchased for $50 each through the HSC Medical Foundation office at HSC Medical Center or at the Chamber of Commerce. A portion of each ticket is a tax-deductible donation to the HSC Medical Foundation. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will be available until Monday.
