FAYETTEVILLE — Offensive lineman Seth Oxner is leaving the University of Arkansas football program, he confirmed Wednesday through a team spokesperson.
Oxner, a fifth-year senior, was a back-up center for Arkansas last season after starting all 13 games at the position in 2009. The Monticello native also played on the Razorbacks special teams and spent time this spring at offensive guard.
Oxner graduated from the UA Saturday with a degree in applied exercise science.
“One of my primary goals when I came to the University of Arkansas was to get my degree,” Oxner said in a statement. “I’ve accomplished that and have made the decision to end my Razorback football career.
“I’ve enjoyed my time in Fayetteville, and I want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates for everything they have done for me and the great experiences we have had together. I look forward to watching the program continue to have success in the future.”
Oxner didn’t confirm his next move, though it is believed he will return to his hometown to play for Arkansas-Monticello next season. The Boll Weevils compete in the NCAA’s Division-II and Oxner, who has one year of eligibility remaining, would be immediately eligible.
Oxner’s departure is the second on the Arkansas offensive line this off-season. Cam Feldt, a reserve guard who redshirted his freshman season in 2010, was one of five players granted a scholarship release last week by the program.
Arkansas is seeking a medical hardship for another lineman, Colby Berna, which would end his career. Berna has struggled with shoulder injuries since high school and has not played during his two years on campus.
The Razorbacks concentrated heavily on the offensive line in the 2011 signing class, inking five players at the positions.
