Where I live: I live in Chenal with my husband, Hong Yi, and our children, Xuan Yi, 22, and Evan Yi, 14, and our dog, Simba.

Occupation: I am a doctor of oriental medicine and owner of Shie Ji Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture Clinic. I am a fifth-generation acupuncturist and have treated tens of thousands of patients in the past 30 years.

My favorite space: It’s in my gardens.

Why? I started gardening about 10 years ago and love the energy that comes from spending time in nature. I work long hours and when I come home tired, I head to the garden and my energy comes back. It nourishes your spirit and balances yin and yang.

The peony, which is the national flower in China, is my favorite and I grow a few varieties. We have a saying in China, “When peonies bloom, happiness comes.” I also grow snow peas, lettuce, peppers, garlic, eggplant and Chinese squash.

If I could do one thing to improve this space, I would: Like to plant more flowers.
